Klassen Popcorn Stand
On the corner of Second street and Broadway in Plainview, MN you will find a small white structure. This structure is adorned with large red and blue polka dots and sits in the corner of a parking lot. It is a small business that has been a fixture in the community for 31 years.
At this small business you can purchase what is proclaimed by many to be "the best popcorn". You may be lucky enough to stop by when the occasional popcorn balls are offered.
It was originally opened by Leona Klassen in May 1989. I remember stopping by being greeted with her big smile and leaving, after some conversation, with popcorn and sometimes also gummy bears. It is currently being operated by two of Leona's granddaughters Ashley and Chelsea. They are just as welcoming as their grandma and will greet you with their own sweet smiles. They are open from 6:00pm - 9:00pm Sunday thru Friday, unless there is hard rain or bad weather. Closings are posted on their Facebook page Klassen Popcorn Stand.
Over the years options have increased. You may choose plain or add salt, butter or seasonings. Optional seasonings offered include; cheddar cheese, sour cream and chives, creamy dill, parmesan garlic, white cheddar, ranch, kettle corn, chile limon, bacon, caramel, and hot jalapeno. Chelsea says that "cheddar cheese is a fan favorite". My usual choice is salt with extra butter. What would your choice be?
There is a beginning and an ending to everything on earth. For many in the Plainview area the opening of the Klassen Popcorn Stand signifies the beginning of summer. Thus, this year, summer happily began on June 8th.
That popcorn looks so good! I also really like the way you set up your blog. It was really easy to read and not too cluttered! Good job!
